The area around the property is not enclosed and a very quiet lane runs along the front of the property. A couple of outside garden chairs are provided so you can enjoy the afternoon sun at the front of the property. There's a further seating area in the garden to the rear, up a fairly steep slope (not recommended for anyone with limited mobility). It's a peaceful spot with views over the surrounding countryside to the Quantock Hills. There is a BBQ available. The Smithy is attached to the owners' property, they live next door. They will be on hand to provide any assistance if required, but otherwise would leave you to your own devices. The owners' have a friendly dog who you may see around the outside of the property as well as some sheep, hens and ducks. Please note, there may be livestock in the neighbouring fields, so you would be required to keep your dog under your control at all times. The owners respectfully ask that if you have a dog with you that you clear up after the dog with spade provided and sensibly dispose into the hedge.

The region
+ MoreThe property is in a unique beautiful and peaceful situation close to the Quantock Hills, the first area to be awarded the national status of Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) in 1956 and the Quantock Common is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSI). Th...ere is wonderful walking, cycle routes, horse riding in this area with the North Somerset Coastline to the north of the property. The village of Stogumber has a pub and shop, along with parish church, and primary school, approx 1.5 miles away. Exmoor can also be accessed by steam trains on the West Somerset Railway, the longest Heritage railway in England, from Stogumber station (approx one mile walk from the property) which takes you along the coastline to Minehead - the beginning of the South West Coast Path. The Brendon Hills are close by with two reservoirs, Clatworthy and Wimbleball. This area is ideal for walking, fishing and water sports. The lovely towns of Dunster and Dulverton are about 30 minutes away.
There is a pub in Stogumber village that provides food and drink (approx 1.5 miles). There is also a village shop/post office offering fresh bread from local bakery, daily newspapers etc. There are two supermarkets in Williton (approx 6 miles from the property) and a good butcher providing local meat and produce with a delicatessen counter. There is an Indian restaurant where you can order takeaway and a fish and chip shop (cash only). Wiveliscombe which is about 8.5 miles from the property has two small supermarkets, good butcher, The Larder delicatessen, fish and chip shop and a lovely variety of local food stalls and a fresh fish van every Saturday morning in the Square. There are a variety of pubs in villages not far from the property offering a varying variety of menus. Advisable to book ahead. The owners recommend the Royal Oak Inn at Luxborough for food, wine and lively atmosphere but do book as very popular (approx 11 miles).
Fabulous areas for walking, cycling, horse riding, bird watching, beach combing and water sports (outdoor swimming pool in Wiveliscombe), beaches on the coast and at Wimbleball Lake, tennis in Wiveliscombe, surfing on the North Devon Coast, golf. Shopping, theatres and cinemas in County towns of Exeter and Taunton.
Some of the best walking country is close by on Exmoor and on the Quantock Hills. The West Country has some of the best beaches in the country. Kilve Beach near Watchet is a fascinating stretch of the Jurassic coast. Grand limestone cliffs back the slate and shingle beach, with interesting rock formations sweeping the shoreline. A great place to explore for fossils. The owners have OS maps of the local area which they would be delighted to share with guests.
