The region
+ MoreBentwitchen is a small hamlet on the edge Exmoor National Park, tucked away in a charming rural spot. The Poltimore Arms, possibly one of Exmoor’s most delightful pubs, is just up the road and is definitely Bentwtichen’s “local” (less than 2 miles away). North Molton is... the nearest village (approx 4 miles) which has a couple of pubs and a village shop/newsagents with Post Office counter. Please support our local traders. Exmoor provides a great base for walking, cycling and exploring. There are also opportunities to ride, to play golf at the famous Saunton Sands Golf Course or to visit a number of outstanding gardens such as those at Marwood and RHS Rosemoor. It is also the place for anyone who just wants to relax and enjoy the peace and tranquillity of the North Devon countryside. Bentwitchen is within easy reach of Tarr Steps, The Chains - a wonderful place for the experienced walker, the Tarka Trail, the North Devon coastal path, Woody Bay and the Valley of the Rocks as well as Lynton and Lynmouth. The beaches at Saunton and Croyde are not far away. South Molton, the nearest town, is 6 miles away and has a local market on Thursday and a farmers market on Saturday. Barnstaple, North Devon’s main market town, with its famous Pannier Market and Butchers Row – excellent for both meat and locally caught fish, is within easy reach and offers a range of shopping facilities and other activities.
The nearest pub is the Poltimore Arms, which is less than 2 miles from Bentwitchen but this pub does not serve food. There is the Black Venus at Challacombe, the Masons Arms at Knowstone, The Royal Oak at Withypool a short drive away.
