Hedgehog Cottage, Wheddon Cross (Somerset) is situated on a working farm in a lovely rural location. The cottage offers comfortable holiday accommodation for up to 4 guests in two bedrooms. Sleeps up to 4 guests in two bedrooms Sitting room with wood-burner for cosy evenings in Dining area attached to the kitchen Well equipped kitchen Two upstairs bedrooms, one double bed and one twin bedroom Upstairs family bathroom Laundry facilities and additional freezer space in the external utility room (shared with Red Deer Cottage next door) - CURRENTLY CLOSED DUE TO COVID-19. Separate freezers have been put in each cottage but unfortunately there is no washing machine. Enclosed garden to the rear of the cottage (not necessarily dog-proof) Parking available directly outside the cottage Dog welcome, free of charge (1 maximum) Friday changeover in the summer months Wifi (rural), heating, and electricity included Natural water supply from a spring Bed linen and towels provided Arrive from 4 pm Depart by 9:15am A refundable security deposit of £200 is required for this property, to cover the cost of possible damage during your stay. All things being well, this security deposit will be returned shortly after your departure providing there is no damage to the property or its contents. Two weeks prior to your arrival, you will need to contact the owners to arrange payment of the security deposit. One well behaved dog is welcome by prior arrangement. You are expected to be vigilant and keep your dog/s under close control at all times as there is likely to be livestock in the immediate vicinity. There is a forestry track leading from the garden that you can exercise your dog on for a short walk. There are lots of lovely walks a short drive from the farm where your dog can be exercised freely, including dog friendly beaches. COVID-19 UPDATE: The safety and wellbeing of our guests and our team is the most important thing to us. We will be taking extra measures in order to keep you safe during your stay and ensure that you can relax and enjoy your break. We have had to make a few changes to how we provide the best holiday for our guests and under the safer stay initiative, we have had to remove non-essential items and alter our check in/checkout times. Before your stay we will send an email with all the details of what has changed and what items we cannot provide at this time. If there is anything particular you’re concerned about please do not hesitate to contact us. We are following Government cleaning advice which includes all highly touched spaces and hard surfaces will be disinfected and bed linen and towels will be washed using the hottest setting. We will be fogging the cottages with Safe2Stay canisters which create an anti-bacterial and anti-viral fog covering all surfaces. Our cleaning staff will be using PPE where appropriate and will take extra precautions when cleaning. Check-In: Please do not arrive until after 4pm so we can ensure the cottage is thoroughly clean and ready for you. Check-out: On your day of departure, please can you leave the cottage before 9:15am so we can ensure we have enough time to thoroughly clean the cottage for the next guests. We also ask that you strip the beds and leave all linen and towels in appropriate piles so it can easily be removed safely.
The accommodation sleeps up to 4 guests and briefly comprises: On the ground floor: A well equipped kitchen with electric cooker, microwave, fridge and dishwasher, plus a range of cookware, crockery and glasses. Dining area off the kitchen Sitting room with Freeview TV, DVD player and lovely wood-burner And on the first floor: Two bedrooms; one double bedroom and one twin bedroom Family bathroom with shower over the bath, toilet and hand basin. An external door leads from the first floor hallway into the garden. Oil-fired central heating and electricity is included in the price of the accommodation, the heating can be adjusted to suit your preferences. An initial supply of logs are provided to get your started. The laundry/utility room is located in outbuilding just a short distance from the front door, it houses a coin-operated washing machine and tumble dryer, freezer and payphone (all of which are shared with the other properties on site). - Currently closed due to COVID-19, therefore there is no access to washing machine. We have put separate freezers in each cottage. Bed linen and towels are provided. Beds are made up for your arrival with freshly laundered sheets and duvets. Please bring your beach towels if you wish to take towels on day trips. We do ask that beds are stripped on day of departure and left in appropriate piles so we can safely remove the bedding. 1 well behaved dog is welcome. Please do not allow your dogs on the furniture. Due to Covid-19, we have had to remove non-essential items. An email will be sent out before your stay with information about this. However we have crossed off what we currently cant provide on the list above.
The garden is located at the rear of the property and can be accessed from the upstairs hallway or by going around the outside of the property. It is is enclosed by a fence but should not necessarily be considered dog or child proof. The fields around the property in the coombe are likely to be stocked with sheep or cattle, so you are expected to be vigilant with your dogs and keep them under control at all times. There is a short forestry track leading from the garden that you can exercise your dog on for a short walk. Wheddon Cross is just over a mile from Hedgehog Cottage, it's a village in the parish of Cutcombe on Exmoor, based around the crossroads; the roads run from north to south between Minehead and Dulverton, and east to west between Taunton and North Devon. The village is argued to b...e the highest on Exmoor, standing at 980 feet above sea level, and the highest point on Exmoor, Dunkery Beacon (1704 feet above sea level) is the focal point of the village. Dunkery Beacon is about three miles from the village, there are fantastic panoramic views from Dunkery; wild moorland to the west, the Bristol Channel and Wales to the north, the rolling Brendon Hills to the east and the Quarme Valley to the south. In recent years the village has become well-known for the abundance of snowdrops in the nearby valley which has become known as 'Snowdrop Valley'. The snowdrops bloom around February and a park and ride system operates from the village to enable visitors easy access to the "carpet of snowdrops". Wheddon Cross is surrounded by beautiful countryside; open moorland, wooded valleys and farmland. An abundance of wildlife can often be seen, including Exmoor ponies and red deer. There are a number of great walks along marked footpaths and bridleways, including the famous Coleridge Way which passes through.. Wheddon Cross is a thriving community and offers many local services for a small village. The village shop is a well-stocked mini-supermarket incorporating a Post Office counter, petrol pumps, cash point machine and has good opening hours. The Rest & Be Thankful Inn is the village pub which serves food and is child and dog friendly. The village also has a first school, church, playing field, public conveniences, and a bus service. Minehead is the nearest town, approximately 9 miles away. Here you will find the larger supermarkets and petrol stations (Tesco and Morrison's are both situated on the outskirts of the town), high street banks with cash machines, plus a range of other shops throughout the town.
