The region
+ MoreWheddon Cross is a village in the parish of Cutcombe on Exmoor, based around the crossroads; the roads run from north to south between Minehead and Dulverton, and east to west between Taunton and North Devon. The village is argued to be the highest on Exmoor, standing at 980 feet... above sea level, and the highest point on Exmoor, Dunkery Beacon (1704 feet above sea level) is the focal point of the village. Dunkery Beacon is about three miles from the village, there are fantastic panoramic views from Dunkery; wild moorland to the west, the Bristol Channel and Wales to the north, the rolling Brendon Hills to the east and the Quarme Valley to the south.
There are several pubs within easy reach, the nearest is The Rest & Be Thankful Inn in Wheddon Cross. The next village down the valley is Timberscombe which has a pub called The Lion Inn ), there's also The Royal Oak in Luxborough in the opposite direction. The Black Venus in Challacombe is a bit further afield but it's a lovely drive across the moor, and worth it! There are also numerous eating places in nearby Dunster too, such as The Stags Head. There's a mini-supermarket in Wheddon Cross with good opening hours, they have a good supply of all the essentials. The larger supermarkets can be found in Minehead (Tesco, Lidl and Morrisons). There's also a great butcher and farm shop in Minehead on Hawkesworth Road (behind Tesco car park) called Stuart Lowen Farm Shop. Please support the village amenities and our local traders.

Suggest the North Devon Coast - Lynmouth, Woolacombe, etc - which approx an hour's drive. For walking, there are many long or short routes and you can walk from the Barn. Further information is provided in the property.
