April on Exmoor | Events & What’s On

Every month, Exmoor has a host of events, activities & seasonal stuff to get involved with.  Here’s what’s happening this year (2023!) throughout the amazing Springtime month of April on Exmoor…

1st April:

Bossington Beach Coffee & Cake Community Clean Up

Coffee! Cake! Beach time! What more could you want?  And, at the risk of sounding a little cheesy, you also get the the added benefit of doing a great thing for our beautiful planet.

On the 1st April 2023, 10am-2pm, the Porlock community will be coming together for an annual beach clean.  If you fancy getting involved, come along to Bossington and help clean the beach – free coffee and cake for all who join (horray!).  From Bossington Car Park, volunteers will head to the Marsh and Shingle Ridge to hunt for plastic bottles, lonely flip flops and other wildlife-hazards-in-waiting.  Gloves, litter pickers and bags will be provided.

1st-16th April:

The Easter Adventures Trail at Dunster Castle

One of Exmoor’s most prestigious, impressive and popular attractions, Dunster Castle is worth a visit any time of year.  But, every day from 1st-16th April (10am-4pm) they are running an Easter Adventures Trail in the gardens!  It’s just £3 per person, which includes the chocolate egg prize you’re seeking at the end of the trail.  A lovely outing for the family this April on Exmoor.

6th & 8th April:

Rockpooling with Rangers

Something really fun that’s on offer at the sea’s edge in Lynmouth this year, is Rockpooling with Rangers!

From 12-3pm on Thursday 6th April & 1-4pm on Saturday 8th April (Easter Saturday) you can join the Exmoor National Park Rangers on a seashore safari – for free!  All equipment is provided – nets, buckets etc – and the Rangers will teach all participants how to become a rockpooling rockstar.

1st-17th April:

Watersports at Wimbleball Lake

We highly recommend splashing out at Wimbleball Lake. This is an absolutely breathtaking location near Dulverton, which offers a variety of awesome activities, including windsurfing, stand-up paddle-boarding, kayaking, canoeing, dinghy sailing and archery.  The Activity Centre is open at various times from March through October, but there’s a special programme of events on over the Easter holidays.

8th April:

Easter Craft Fair @ Dulverton Town Hall

Local nano-brewery Cottage Beer Project based in Morebath, is hosting another gorgeous craft fair in Dulverton Town Hall.  How many more wholesome ways to spend Easter Saturday can you think of, than shopping heavenly, locally made, artisan products and sampling delicious home cooked (& home brewed!) treats?  There will be stalls from Springers Cottage Soaps, Crafty Like A FoxCrumbcoat Bakery, Bollhayes Cider, Happy Glaze Pottery & many more.

9th April:

Easter Sunday Dawn Service on Porlock Weir Beach

Weather permitting, the St Dubricius Church in Porlock will be bringing a special sunrise service to Porlock Weir Beach on Easter Sunday, at 6am.  A really unique and beautiful way to connect with your spirituality this Easter.

16th April:

Minehead Eat Festival

eat:Festival runs food festivals all over the place, and it comes to Minehead this year on Sunday 16th April with over 500 metres of food & drink stalls.  You can expect an enormous range of local food & drink producers, awesome street food and free entertainment such as jugglers, DJs, buskers and Punch & Judy shows.  The event will be well laid out & accessible – one of the events in April on Exmoor you do not want to miss!

17th April:

Lambing Season Farm Walk

The Exmoor Society regularly runs wondrous walks around Exmoor and this one takes place on Westermill Farm, during lambing season!  As well as a tour of the farm and ring-side seats to the lambing, there’s a gorgeous plantation of 18000 native trees and some stunning spots to be seen.  AND there’ll be tea & cake!

29th April:

Lynton Town Hall Spring Market

The town of Lynton has a lot to offer, but in particular, it boasts a bonzer town hall.  Three times a year, it offers a fabulous market, and this year’s Spring edition falls on 29th April.  There will be myriad marvellous food, drink & craft stalls for you to tuck into, so add this one to your diary stat.

29th April-1st May:

Minehead Steampunk Festival

You can’t say that Exmoor isn’t eclectic in its offerings.  The last weekend of April/first May bank holiday, the Minehead Steampunk Festival is back!  Live music, steam vehicle rides, a steampunk market, a hobby horse parade and, of course, everyone dressed up to the 9s in Victorian Steampunk attire… This is sure to be quite the event. Burning Man eat your heart out 😉

This will include some very unusual acts, as well as some amazing music & hilarious comedy.  And this year there seems to be an extra promise of pirates!

And finally for April on Exmoor we suggest – bluebells!

Throughout April on Exmoor the bluebells will be in their finest flush and there are many amazing spots to find them. Try Borough Woods near Ilfracombe, or Bye Wood/Common where they may even be out in the open!
