Ever wondered what Exmoor tastes like?
Not just the views — the rolling hills, the heather, the wild, open skies — but the flavour of it. The kind you can sip slowly, glass in hand, after a day well spent outdoors.
Just on the edge of Exmoor National Park, tucked near the charming town of Dulverton, you’ll find Exmoor Distillery — home to the finest Exmoor gin and spirits in the region. And trust us, this is one stop you’ll want to add to your Exmoor wanderings.
Their Story
Like many good things, it started with a shared passion.
Husband-and-wife team John and Nicola met over cocktails more than two decades ago — so it’s perhaps no surprise that great drinks became part of their story. Pair that with a love for the South West countryside, and the seeds for something special were well and truly planted.
After settling in Dulverton in 2007, they took the leap a decade later and launched Exmoor Distillery — quickly building a reputation for producing some of the best craft gin.
The Taste of Exmoor
Step inside, and you’ll quickly realise this isn’t just about spirits — it’s about storytelling through flavour.
From crisp gins to smooth rums and vodkas, each bottle reflects something of the surrounding moorland. Think aromatic, unmistakably Exmoor.
Their signature Exmoor gin captures that balance beautifully, earning praise as one of the best gin experiences you can have. It’s fresh, distinctive, and crafted with real attention to detail.
Ingredients are thoughtfully sourced, and everything is distilled and bottled by hand. It’s slow, considered, and all the better for it.
Keep an eye out for their seasonal releases too — perfect if you’re on the lookout for a truly unique craft gin to take home.
A Distillery Visit (Well Worth the Detour)
If you’re exploring the area, this is where things get even more enjoyable.
Exmoor Distillery welcomes visitors for guided tours and tastings throughout the week, offering a relaxed and engaging way to discover how their award-winning spirits are made.
You’ll be taken behind the scenes to see how everything works, from the stills to the botanicals, with plenty of insight along the way. And yes, there are tastings — because it would be rude not to.
If you’re searching for the best gin tasting experience, this is a brilliant place to start. (Please note that dogs are welcome on site but not allowed in the production area.)
