The region
+ MoreThe nearest village is Porlock, it's a working Exmoor village and is well worth a visit, there are several pubs, two grocery shops, a traditional local butcher, chemist, cash machine, petrol station, hardware shop, visitor centre, several art galleries and a range of independent ...restaurants, shops and tea rooms! Porlock Weir is the harbour just 1.5 miles from Porlock. There are places to eat out, a pub and a variety of individual shops. Also well worth a visit. Many of the shops in Porlock and Porlock Weir are open during traditional hours of 9 am to 5 pm, although hours are often extended during the summer season. Conversely, some shops also reduce their opening hours out of season. Minehead is the main town in West Somerset. This is where the larger supermarkets, petrol stations (Tesco and Morrison's are both situated (on the outskirts of the town) plus there are most major high street banks with cash machines, plus a range of other shops throughout the town. In the opposite direction, the villages of Lynmouth and Lynton are beautiful and each boast a variety of shops, pubs and restaurants, plus a unique attraction - the funicular railway.
If you enjoy walking or cycling the cottage is ideally placed , there is a footpath opposite to Robbers Bridge through a beautiful valley with a picnic area , behind the cottage you can walk down the toll road to Porlock Weir and enjoy the harbour and maybe a pub lunch at the Ship Pub. Culbone Church is a short walk away along the lane and also the Culbone Stone hidden away in a quiet wood . The Culbone Inn is on the opposite side of the road and serves good local food and drinks so no need to take the car. In Porlock Wier you can join the Exmoor Safari and take a trip across Exmoor to see the ponies and red deer.
Minehead beach 20 mins by car - sandy Porlock Wier 10 mins by car or walk -pebbles Bossington beach and walk -10 mins by car pebbles Coastal path - runs at the back of the cottage from Minehead to Linton
