Red Deer Cottage, Wheddon Cross (Somerset) is situated on a working farm in a lovely rural location. This detached barn was converted with guests' comfort in mind; the property is spacious and offers flexible accommodation for families or group getaways. Sleeps up to 6 guests in three bedrooms Open-plan kitchen-dining and living area One downstairs twin bedroom with shower room and toilet adjacent Two double bedrooms upstairs (one king-sized bed and one double bed) Both double bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms Laundry facilities and additional freezer space in the external utility room (shared with Hedgehog Cottage next door) - CURRENTLY CLOSED DUE TO COVID-19. Patio area directly outside the cottage with BBQ and large garden (enclosed but not dog proof) Dogs welcome free of charge (2 maximum) Friday changeover in the summer months Wifi (rural) heating, and electricity included Natural water supply from a spring Bed linen and towels provided Arrive from 4 pm Depart by 9:15 am A refundable security deposit of £200 is required for this property, to cover the cost of possible damage during your stay. All things being well, this security deposit will be returned shortly after your departure providing there is no damage to the property or its contents. Two weeks prior to your arrival, you will need to contact the owners to make arrangements regarding the payment of the security deposit. Up to two well behaved dogs are welcome by prior arrangement. You are expected to be vigilant and keep your dog/s under close control at all times as there is likely to be livestock in the immediate vicinity. There is a forestry track leading from the garden that you can exercise your dog in for a short walk. There are lots of lovely walks a short drive from the farm where your dog can be exercised freely, including dog friendly beaches. COVID-19 UPDATE: The safety and wellbeing of our guests and our team is the most important thing to us. We will be taking extra measures in order to keep you safe during your stay and ensure that you can relax and enjoy your break. We have had to make a few changes to how we provide the best holiday for our guests and under the safer stay initiative, we have had to remove non-essential items and alter our check in/checkout times. Before your stay we will send an email with all the details of what has changed and what items we cannot provide at this time. If there is anything particular you’re concerned about please do not hesitate to contact us. We are following Government cleaning advice which includes all highly touched spaces and hard surfaces will be disinfected and bed linen and towels will be washed using the hottest setting. We will be fogging the cottages with Safe2Stay canisters which create an anti-bacterial and anti-viral fog covering all surfaces. Our cleaning staff will be using PPE where appropriate and will take extra precautions when cleaning. Check-In: Please do not arrive until after 4pm so we can ensure the cottage is thoroughly clean and ready for you. Check-out: On your day of departure, please can you leave the cottage before 9:15am so we can ensure we have enough time to thoroughly clean the cottage for the next guests. We also ask that you strip the beds and leave all linen and towels in appropriate piles so it can easily be removed safely.
The accommodation sleeps up to 6 guests and briefly comprises: On the ground floor: A well equipped kitchen with electric cooker, microwave, fridge and dishwasher, plus a range of cookware, crockery and glasses. Open plan dining and living area with Freeview TV, DVD player and French doors leading to garden Two steps up to the hall area One ground floor twin bedroom. A shower room, with toilet and hand basin. And on the first floor: There is a spacious bedroom with king-size bed, Juliet balcony and en-suite with shower over the bath, toilet and hand basin. Another double bedroom (4'6 double bed) Bathroom with shower over the bath, toilet and hand basin. Oil-fired central heating and electricity is included in the price of the accommodation, the heating can be adjusted to suit your preferences. Laundry room located in outbuilding with coin-operated washing machine and tumble dryer, freezer and payphone (shared with other properties on site) - currently closed due to COVID-19. Bed linen and towels are provided. Beds are made up for your arrival with freshly laundered sheets and duvets. Please bring your beach towels if you wish to take towels on day trips. We are asking that guests strip the beds on day of departure and leave bedding and towels in appropriate piles so it can be removed safely. Up to 2 well behaved dogs are welcome. Please do not allow your dogs on the furniture or upstairs. Due to Covid-19, we have had to remove non-essential items. An email will be sent out before your stay with information about this. However we have crossed off what we currently cant provide on the list above.
A large patio area stretches along two sides of the property, complete with outside garden furniture and BBQ area. The large garden is partially bordered by a stream and is available for guests' sole use. The garden is enclosed by a fence but is not dog or child proof. The fields around the property in the coombe are likely to be stocked with sheep or cattle, so you are expected to be vigilant with your dogs and keep them under control at all times. There is a short forestry track leading from the garden that you can exercise your dog in for a short walk. Wheddon Cross is just over a mile from Red Deer Cottage, it's a village in the parish of Cutcombe on Exmoor, based around the crossroads; the roads run from north to south between Minehead and Dulverton, and east to west between Taunton and North Devon. The village is argued to b...e the highest on Exmoor, standing at 980 feet above sea level, and the highest point on Exmoor, Dunkery Beacon (1704 feet above sea level) is the focal point of the village. Dunkery Beacon is about three miles from the village, there are fantastic panoramic views from Dunkery; wild moorland to the west, the Bristol Channel and Wales to the north, the rolling Brendon Hills to the east and the Quarme Valley to the south. In recent years the village has become well-known for the abundance of snowdrops in the nearby valley which has become known as 'Snowdrop Valley'. The snowdrops bloom around February and a park and ride system operates from the village to enable visitors easy access to the "carpet of snowdrops". Wheddon Cross is surrounded by beautiful countryside; open moorland, wooded valleys and farmland. An abundance of wildlife can often be seen, including Exmoor ponies and red deer. There are a number of great walks along marked footpaths and bridleways, including the famous Coleridge Way which passes through.. Wheddon Cross is a thriving community and offers many local services for a small village. The village shop is a well-stocked mini-supermarket incorporating a Post Office counter, petrol pumps, cash point machine and has good opening hours. The Rest & Be Thankful Inn is the village pub which serves food and is child and dog friendly. The village also has a first school, church, playing field, public conveniences, and a bus service. Minehead is the nearest town, approximately 9 miles away. Here you will find the larger supermarkets and petrol stations (Tesco and Morrison's are both situated on the outskirts of the town), high street banks with cash machines, plus a range of other shops throughout the town.
