• Circular Walk | Porlock Weir to Porlock | 4 Mile loop

Whether starting in Porlock or Porlock Weir, here’s a circular route for an enchanting walk connecting both villages. I love this route – there’s a bit of everything; head out to expansive vistas across the bay from Porlock Bay, the fascinating trees and flora of Porlock Marsh. Return via the elevated woodland path through coastal woodland… And at either end, there’s plenty of options for coffee, pint or some hearty grub!

    Length: Approx 4 miles

    Ascent: Approx 80m

Grade: Easy-Moderate (NB beach section across pebble/shingle)

Start: Porlock Weir carpark. Postcode (approximate location) TA24 8PB.

Circular walk between Porlock Weir and Porlock. (Route here also showing an optional extra loop via Bossington)

    Beginning at Porlock Weir

From Porlck Weir car park, head straight out onto the beach and turn right, keeping the sea to your left. Follow the shingle beach, which initially runs parallel to the road. The beach will curve to the left as you continue, guiding you through some fields. Proceeding along the shingle ridge will leave you at a dead end, as an impassable breach is ahead. Instead, veer right when the shingle meets the marshland.

    Admire the Marsh

Follow the path alongside the fence, skirting inland of Porlock Marsh. At this point, leave the Coast Path and turn right, heading back towards Porlock. Follow the designated footpath that leads to Sparkhayes Lane, using the path that runs alongside the lane as instructed.

    Through the village of Porlock

Once you reach the village, take a right turn onto the high street and make your way towards the Ship Inn. Continue uphill along the road, and after a short distance, turn right onto the toll road. Approximately 200 yards ahead, you will encounter a footpath on your right.

Up into the woods heading back west

Follow this path as it winds through the enchanting woods and descends towards West Porlock. While on the footpath, resist the urge to turn right into the village and instead continue through the woods until you reach a footbridge. Cross the footbridge, which will lead you onto the road at Porlock Weir. Proceed further along the footpath, which will guide you back onto the main road and down towards Porlock Weir.
